The director and writer George B. Seitz was coming from the theater
when he entered the film business in Hollywood in 1913. Already one year
later he wrote first scripts and directed first movies.
To his first movies as a director belong "The Exploits of Elaine" (14),
"The Iron Claw" (16), "The House of Hate" (18), "The Lightning Raider"
(19) and "The Black Secret" (19).
He often realised adventure pictures which were very popular at that
time, one of his favorite actresses was Pearl White.
As a screen writer he wrote at the beginning of his career "The Perils
of Pauline" (14), "Detective Craig's Coup" (14), "The Galloper" (15), "The
Closing Net" (15), "The Precious Parcel" (16), "Bling Man's Luck" (17)
and "The Naulahka" (18).
He was able to cement his reputation as a solid director in the 20's
and he shot movies like "Rogues and Romance" (20), "Speed" (22), "Into
the Net" (24), "The Vanishing American" (25), "Desert Gold" (26), "The
Last Frontier" (26), "The Blood Ship" (27), "The Isle of Forgotten Women"
(27), "The Tigress" (27), "Ransom" (28), "Blockade" (28) and "Black Magic"
(29).
He mastered the transition to the sound film without any problems and
he directed in the next years successful movies like "The Lion and the
Lamb" (31), "Arizona" (31), "Shanghaied Love" (31), ""Docks of San Francisco"
(32), "The Thrill Hunter" (33), "Woman Wanted" (35), "The Last of the Mohicans"
(36), "Tarzan Escapes" (36) and "My Dear Miss Aldrich" (37).
In 1938 he directed his first Andy-Hardy movie with "Judge Hardy's
Children" (38), it followed many other productions with "Judge Hardy and
Son" (39), "Andy Hardy Meets Debutante" (40), "Andy Hardy's Private Secretary"
(41), "The Courtship of Andy Hardy" (42) and "Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble"
(44).
After the shot of "Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble" George B. Seitz died
at the age of 56.
Besides his activity as a director and screen writer he also produced
movies and was busy as an actor at the beginning of his career.
George B. Seitz's brother John F. Seitz
was a well-known cinematographer, his son George B. Seitz jr. wrote some
scripts in the 40's and 50's.
